Your Thoughts Are Determining Your Outcome Whether You Know it Or Not.

Our attitude significantly shapes our experience of work and co-workers.

If we look at things from a negative lens and perspective, it becomes inevitable that our interpretation will also produce a negative outcome.

We could flip the script and take a more positive and optimistic stance in our day-to-day lives and interactions. Both our professional and personal interactions would be affected.  Perhaps it goes without saying that our interpretations would lean into positive ones, as will the outcomes!

Are you Using Asset-Based Thinking?

Let me recommend, Change the Way You See Everything through Asset-Based Thinking.

The rewards of a positive outlook are far more beneficial not only for all involved in our lives but, most importantly, ourselves.

A positive attitude enhances our skills and our ability to cope. It also causes us to be more creative and problem-solver—your health and ability to manage stress benefit from a healthy mindset.

Positive thinking is about changing our thoughts and behavior patterns. Our reality shifts. In other words, when we choose our thoughts mindfully and optimistically, no matter what others think of us for doing so, we benefit, and so do they!

What is Positive Thinking?

So what exactly is positive thinking? Positive thinking is an optimistic attitude – at work, at home, and even on the highway with a flat tire.

What Positive Thinking is Not

Positive thinking is not expecting the worst. Before we can start to implement a more positive attitude into our lives, we need to fix the negative aspects of our thinking. How do we do this? Don’t fence yourself out of the good things that lie potentially beneath the challenge by habitually choosing to think cynically.  It’s unproductive, and in truth, maybe produces many more problems.

You don’t take the blame for something disappointing that has happened. Sometimes bad things happen; you can leave it at that without beating yourself up over it. Past failures or adverse outcomes don’t determine your future potential.

When you notice negative thoughts emerging, shift your focus. What could be a benefit from the situation? Even if it means you jot down 50 ridiculous things until finally, you uncover a gem and write down something brilliant. Try thinking rationally about the situation. However, if it gets the best of you, use the number one strategy of all time: let it go. The next moment is yours.

A Positive Outlook Takes Practice

It’s important to remember that negative thoughts don’t disappear overnight. If you are a pro at negativity, it took some healthy practice to get you there. You have to retrain your thinking. The good news is that with practice, we can train ourselves to have a more positive outlook.

Be The Change

Positive energy and emotions are very contagious. It is helpful to actively seek and surround ourselves with people that inspire and motivate us positively. In the workplace, this may mean not spending any more time than is necessary with co-workers who have an unhealthy, cynical attitude. Rather spend more time with co-workers who focus on the good and have a healthy view of the work they do and the people they work with.

6 benefits of positive thinking in the workplace

Below are ten ways a workplace benefits when the people have a positive thinking habit

  1. When positive thinking is practiced and considered the norm, the work environment benefits. People flourish and are encouraged to contribute in ways they might not otherwise feel comfortable doing. Everyone is less fearful of a negative interpretation and reception from their co-workers.
  2. People are more likely to achieve their goals. This is because a positive attitude encourages teams to work harder and be more efficient. Your mind is clearer. There is more of a sense of purpose in what you do.
  3. Decision-making is better when people are confident. Yes, a positive attitude builds confidence. Positive, confident attitudes directly influence outcomes.
  4. We become more resilient. This is largely due to the fact that we are more responsible and adaptable. In other words, we are much better at managing the unexpected and seeking solutions when our attitude is a positive one.
  5. Positivity = confidence = productivity. This is because morale is high, and energy is directed at the right target: work and productivity, instead of all the other unproductive “noise” that often breeds negative attitudes.
  6. Better relationships emerge. And why wouldn’t they? You are not only seeing the good in yourself, but you are also seeing the good in others. This contributes positively to a more unified and resilient team culture.

It’s A Habit Worth Keeping

The overall work culture benefits greatly from a positive attitude. A work environment where the expected attitude is one of positivity, civility, and respect is one with the potential to thrive.

Positive thinking can also truly have a significant impact on our physical health mental well-being. That doesn’t mean you go into denial and ignore reality and problems that do exist.  Rather, you approach the good and the bad in life with the assumption and belief that things will go well.
