Shaping your 2023 to the New You – Reflect

At the end of a year, we have an unusual doorway – a mental passage – a reason to reflect. We could do it anytime, but our social structure revolves around newness and opportunity from December 31st to January 5th -ish.

But before you pull out your shiny copy of the 2023 calendar and begin making plans to change the world (or yours, anyway!), engage with this time ahead to reflect.

REFLECTION : the throwing back by a body or surface of light, heat, or sound without absorbing it. (Oxford)

Reflection as a First Step Toward Meaningful Change

Before you consider what you want more or less of in your life and career, now is the time to ask why, and practicing reflection will help you do that.

Think about what has been meaningful to you this year.

Was it:

  • The people you met?
  • The people you loved?
  • A new place you visited?
  • The routine of what is familiar?
  • People you disliked but learned from?
  • Work assignments that opened new doors?
  • The security of your paycheck?
  • Adventures you dared to take?
  • Books you read that got you thinking?
  • Loss of revenue or savings?
  • Significant purchases that impacted your comfort?
  • Loss of people or pets that you care about?
  • Continue with your list……

Go For A Walk

Now get alone in your quiet space without earbuds and televisions and consider the significant markers you identified for yourself. Why did your list (refer to ideas above and those you added) matter?  What do you value? How should those values forecast your choices for 2023?

When you take the time to consider and reflect – even to journal these thoughts, impressions, ideas, and possibly regrets, you can decide what goals will genuinely matter to you in 2023.

You define your success and make daily, monthly, and yearly plans that help you manifest what makes you – the real YOU- happy.

We get one trip around this life; make choices that help you enjoy the adventure!
