Team Behavior is another vital element of teamwork.  Where does civil and collaborative behavior begin? Let’s continue our conversation on cultivating great team members in your workplace. Each group is different and will require different strategies to help everyone feel welcomed, respected, and vital to the group. This week we are adding to the options. I encourage you to choose what you feel drawn to and leave the rest for another time.

Here are some other tips from previous lessons:

How Team Members Collaborate for Success

Building Teams From The Ground Up

Provide Opportunities for Professional Growth

When individuals feel their professional growth is valued, they are more likely to contribute actively to the team’s success.  Effective leaders will support their professional growth, with words and resources. The leader is now a valued career partner.

Tip: Support the growth and development of team members by offering training, workshops, or mentoring programs.

Lead By Example

As a leader, whether you are a supervisor, manager, or CEO, make sure you model the behaviors and values you want to see in your team.

Tip: Demonstrate effective communication, collaboration, and respect. Be approachable, supportive, and fair. Your actions will set the tone for the team’s dynamics and cohesion.

Make Civil Behavior Company Policy

Organizations have the responsibility to develop a code of conduct that encourages civil behavior among all of their employees. Lack of civility in any workplace should always be prevented and never tolerated.

Tip: Do your part to ensure your workplace is a respectable and cordial environment where all team members can thrive. Make sure everyone is aware of behaviors that will not be tolerated.

Listen!

There is a time and a place for everything. And it’s safe to say that you will be better served—as will your team—if you are focused on the information being presented to you, and actively listening to all that is being said.

Tip: Let’s face it, effective listening is a skill—and it’s one few of us are born with. Becoming a more effective listener will increase the amount of influence you have on people. You will be more trusted and appreciated, and you will also be more likely to “show up” in the world with more of an open mind and heart.
